Keeping My Spirits Up

Well, this is my first blog...and I want to welcome everyone to it. I'm excited about beginning it, and I hope you will continue to follow me along the way, as you get to know me.

I went to Africa this past summer to volunteer in an orphanage and a HIV/AIDS clinic. I went through a non profit organization, STAESA, which turned out to be a scam. With that in mind, I had to return home early and disappointed. After accepting I needed to come back, I told myself I would start my talk show again, but I will do without holding anything back.

I started it up again last August, and it's gone very well. My talk show, The Jessica Rector Show, is about empowering individuals to find who they are and not be defined by others, roles, society, or things. Everyone has a story. I want to give people the opportunity to share their story. We can all learn from them, whether it's because we are going through a similar situation or gaining information about a topic we knew nothing about. Taking the time to listen can broaden our minds or change our perspectives and allow us to begin to understand other life beyond or beside our own. Finding that commonality and feeling the the thread the unites us all can only help us help ourselves and others.

Right now, I'm trying to spread the awareness for the show. There seems to be a lot of interest in it, but not many people know about it. I think the more people who watch the episodes, the more people who can be affected and begin to help others. Imagine the world where we all help one another!

It begins to be frustrating, because nothing is moving as fast as I would like it to...but that seems par for the course. I'm networking and joining groups but it seems I'm not getting much from small companies. I know times are tough, but I'm not even getting a nibble.

As anyone who knows me knows, I refused to give up. When there's something I'm passionate about, which is a lot of things, failure is not an option. It may take me longer than I hope, but it will happen.

If you're ever feeling down, blue, sad, or frustrated, know there's someone who is feeling like this because of something much worse or more difficult. Don't give up, keep your head up, and know these feelings are only temporary...it will, as it always does, get better!
